Join the Office of Student Affairs in supporting student wellness through our beloved campus therapy dog! Student workers help manage therapy dog visits (yappy hours) with students, take the dog on walks according to her daily schedule, promote and manage the dog at campus events, and engage the campus community.

Perfect for students passionate about mental health, animal care, and creating a positive, inclusive environment.

Federal Work Study required.

Must be available for Fall 2025 & Spring 2026 semesters and willing to participate in campus therapy dog training.

Pay Rate: $15.49 / hour                                     

Primary Work Location: University Center Complex - Student Affairs Office

Employment Term: Spring 2025 & Fall 2026 Semesters

Work Hours: Ideally 5-10 hours per week 

  

I.

    Essential Functions 


* Assist with the care, handling, and supervision of the campus therapy dog during Student Affairs events and drop-in hours (yappy hours).


* Manage and follow the schedule to take the dog on her timed walks through the day/week and bring to events/other offices as needed.


* Serve as an ambassador for the therapy dog program, engaging students and promoting mental health and wellness resources.


* Coordinate and staff wellness events involving the therapy dog, including set-up and breakdown as needed.

Monitor the therapy dog’s well-being and behavior during work hours and communicate any concerns to professional staff.


* Serve as a point of contact for students interacting with the therapy dog, providing accurate information about the program and available resources.


* Other duties as assigned.

II.    Qualifications 


* Must be an undergraduate student who has received Federal Work-Study for the 2025-2026 academic year.


* Comfort and confidence in working closely with dogs and diverse student populations.


* Must be willing to attend training on animal handling and eventually help guide others on handling.


* Ability to follow the schedule of the dog throughout the day.

III.    Supervision 


* The position reports to the Dean of Students and is responsible for duties assigned by the Executive Assistant and/or the Student Affairs Staff.

Failure to fulfill required job expectations (essential functions) and qualifications in a satisfactory manner or violations of Department/College Policy will be grounds for termination.
