Job Description:

We are searching for the best talent for a Director, Animal Medicine and Welfare to be located in Cincinnati, OH

Purpose: This position in Preclinical Research is responsible for providing oversight and support for the Animal Care and Use program at the Ethicon Endo Surgery animal facility.

This individual is responsible for designing, planning and implementing standard operating procedures to achieve industry best practices that enable reduction, refinement, and replacement in the selection and use of animal models.

This individual participates on the Cincinnati Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and performs all duties as defined by the Animal Welfare Act.  This individual participates and leads the MedTech Global Animal Care and Use Council in assuring sector wide compliance to the J&J Corporate Animal Welfare Policy. 

In accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position:


* Directs individual contributors in a matrix environment and is accountable for meaningful career development conversations and regular coaching and feedback.


* Participates in (or leads) cross-department teams to influence animal medicine and research strategies which includes serving on sector teams such as the J&J MedTech Biosafety Core Team and serves as lead and the veterinary animal welfare subject matter expert to the MedTech Animal Care & Use Council.


* Establishes an operational strategy for vivarium operations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, safety guidelines, standard operating procedures, and federal and departmental guidelines around inspecting animal rooms.


* Serve as the Attending Veterinarian, overseeing adequacy of veterinary care and other aspects of animal care and use.

Responsible for assuring the health and well-being of animals used in research and teaching.


* Direct ongoing assessment of animal health, review of pre- and post-operative veterinary care, medical records, and monitor morbidity and mortality of animals.
