Traffic Signal Technician Trainee

The County of Riverside's Transportation Land Management Agency - Transportation Department seeks a Traffic Signal Technician Trainee to join the Highway Operations Division in Riverside.
The selected candidate will assist with a variety of electrical repairs to and installations of traffic signal systems and highway lighting units located throughout Riverside County.

Additionally, the Traffic Signal Technician Trainee will maintain routine daily records, track all used and unused equipment, and generate usage reports by location.

Candidates must have experience installing and repairing electrical or electronic wiring systems.

In addition, competitive candidates will have experience with Microsoft Excel, generating reports, inventory, construction, and/or traffic signal work.

This position follows a 4/10 schedule, consisting of four 10-hour shifts, Monday - Thursday.
Please note: This position requires an on-call rotation in which employees are required to respond to the work site within 2 hours of notification.

This position is located in Riverside, and calls would be within Riverside County.

Incumbents are eligible to promote to the Traffic Signal Technician upon successful completion of their probationary period, which would include a satisfactory performance evaluation and any additional qualification requirements.

• Check and repair intersection and sign lighting, and test and replace traffic signal lamps; paint and repair signal and lighting hardware; pour and finish concrete bases for traffic signals.

• Set traffic counters to obtain traffic volumes, speeds and vehicle classifications; use computer software to obtain data.

• Perform a variety of other electrical repairs and installations; maintain routine daily records and prepare reports as necessary.Experience: Two years of performing semi-skilled building or industrial trades work which included responsibility for installing and repairing electrical or electronic wiring systems and equipment.
