Position Summary
The Principal Network Engineer’s role is to ensure the stability and integrity of in-house voice, data, video, and wireless network services.
This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization.
In addition, the Principal Network Engineer will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links.
This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion as well as provide end user training where required.
This role also participates in the protection of company data and in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.
Ensures all technical implementations and support are of the highest quality and meet the needs of the customers being served.
Leads and/or provides guidance to junior members of the team as needed.
This position at times will require flexible work hours including after hours and weekend work including on-call availability.
Management reserves the ability to request other functions from this position.
Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities
* Create meaningful KPI dashboards for reporting on networking and application response time Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
* Monitor network performance, conduct problem-solving analysis, and implement prompt solutions with a security-first approach.
* Lead the design and development of low latency networking infrastructure to support distributed systems architecture.
* Lead and execute the design/build of public and hybrid cloud network topology leveraging industry best practices.
* Lead the design/build of containerized network topologies.
* Manage multiple high-level vendor relationships while prioritizing and relaying requirements to the team surrounding internet connectivity direction.
* Recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches for network and security equipment, servers and workstations, and equipment reconfigurations as necessary.
