Land Use Technician I/II

The County of Riverside's Transportation and Land Management Agency (TLMA) is recruiting to fill a Land Use Technician I/II vacancy for the CCS Indio Land Use Division - Front Counter Land Use Unit in Palm Desert, CA.

The Land Use Technician I/II will play an important role in the planning case application intake process by interpreting county land use ordinances for the public, assisting customers seeking guidance, and advising on land development and structures.

The selected candidate will receive proposed plans for building permits, collect fees, and conduct research using maps and assessment records.

Additionally, the selected candidate will determine plans and conformance to State and local building codes, construction plan requirements, easements, setbacks, road dedications, and planning requirements, along with conducting land use inspections, issuing addresses to parcels, advising on ordinance violations, ensuring compliance through land use inspections, and collaborating with County departments on enforcement matters.

As needed, the incumbent will drive to various locations within desert areas for land use inspections.

Competitive candidates will have experience in permit and plan review, document data entry software, and customer service, with a strong understanding of Building Codes and County Ordinances.

A background in construction, while not required, is beneficial.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate expertise in permitting processes at both city and county levels, along with strong drafting, plan reading, and map interpretation skills.

Engineering experience and proficiency in AutoCAD and other engineering programs is highly desirable.

The Land Use Technician I is a natural progression underfill for the Land Use Technician II.

Incumbents are eligible to promote to Land Use Technician II upon successful completion of their probationary period, which would include a satisfactory performance evaluation and any additional qualification requirements.
The Land Use Technician II is the experienced working level classification in the Land Use Technician series and reports to either a supervisory or management level position.

Incumbents are assigned a variety of field and office duties of average difficulty and are expected to perform these tasks with a minimum of supervision.

Advancement to the next level is obtained by competitive selection through an open recruitment.
