The Riverside County Human Resources (HR) Department is seeking a Safety Program Supervisor to support the Safety & Loss Control Division.
The Safety Program Supervisor is the working title for the Claims, Risk & Safety Program Supervisor classification for this recruitment.
Reporting to the Safety Loss Control Division Manager, the Safety Program Supervisor is responsible for supervising and supporting staff within the Safety Loss Control Division, ensuring the effective delivery of countywide safety and loss control related services.
This includes coordinating and reviewing the day-to-day operations of the division, overseeing the development and implementation of safety programs and initiatives, and evaluating their effectiveness in reducing risk and promoting a culture of safety.
The incumbent will serve as a subject matter expert on occupational safety and health regulations, including Cal/OSHA compliance, and will manage complex, confidential, and sensitive issues.
Duties also include leading investigations into workplace incidents, conducting audits and root cause analyses, and collaborating with departments to improve safety practices.
Additionally, the Safety Program Supervisor will participate in the hiring, training, coaching, and professional development of division staff, helping to ensure high performance and continuous improvement within the team.
Incumbents specialize in one of these three areas: claims administration, risk management or workplace safety.
Employees in this role may supervise both risk and/or safety-related personnel, participate in employee selection, training, coaching, and mentoring, and serve as a liaison between County departments, regulatory agencies and external stakeholders.
Incumbents should work collaboratively across disciplines and create a cohesive work environment.
They should actively share relevant information and provide mutual support to each other as they play a critical role in reducing liability exposure.
Employees in a Confidential designated class are defined by Section 3.b.
of the Employee Relations Resolution, as "any employee wo may be privy to the decision-making process of County management affecting employee relations" and are only authorized for use within the departments of Executive Office, Clerk of the Board, County Counsel, and Human Resources.
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:
• Proven supervisory or lead experience in occupational safety, risk management, or a related field.
• In-depth knowledge of federal and state safety regulations, including Cal/OSHA standards.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in managing complex workplace incidents.
• Ability to work collaboratively across departments and build effective working relationships.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, especially in presenting safety policies, procedures and reports.
