Maintenance Electrician

The County of Riverside Office of the Fire Marshal is seeking applications for a Maintenance Electrician.

The incumbent will perform skilled work in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring systems and equipment; and performs other related duties as required.

The Maintenance Electrician is a journey level classification and performs work independently, with supervision received consisting of general and specific job assignments and inspection of finished work.

The Maintenance Electrician class is distinguished from the Lead Maintenance Electrician by the latter's responsibility for assigning the work of a small crew of electricians and inspecting work upon completion.

Competitive candidates will possess heating, ventilation, and air conditioning experience.

The Department, a unique partnership between State of California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) and the County of Riverside, serves 20 partner agencies and has five core values: Leadership, Competence, Integrity, Safety, and Customer Service.• Install electrical conduits, fixtures, motors, switches, and outlets according to codes, working from blueprints, schematic diagrams, sketches, and oral and written directions.

• Test established circuits for overload and determine circuit requirements for additional electrical equipment; test circuitry and switches for failures.

• Isolate problems and replace worn or broken parts; make repairs on electrical circuits and equipment, including motors, heaters, air conditioning controls, washing machines, and other appliances and equipment.

• Estimate materials needed and cost of electrical repair jobs; perform preventive maintenance (e.g., lubricating moving parts, changing filters, and adjusting and changing drive belts on electrical equipment).

• May occasionally repair such equipment as radios and television sets; supervise the work of helpers.

• May assist in the performance of basic construction work in preparation for electrical installation or repair (e.g., pouring and forming concrete, repairing and installing plumbing systems, and framing and installing doors and drywall).

OPTION I
Experience: Completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship training program.

OPTION II
Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible experience performing work in installing and repairing electrical systems and equipment.

Two years of the required experience may be substituted on the basis of 12 semester or 18 quarter units in trade related courses taken at an accredited college or university being equal to six months of experience.
