Graduate Student Research Assistant-hourly

Job Description

This position is for Stevens students currently enrolled.

Must have a fulltime status.

Bachelors Degree required.

This is a part-time position.

Description

This is a part-time, on-campus research assistant position in the Design Informatics Lab at Stevens.

This position involves designing, testing, and iteration of electrical components and PCB boards for various research projects.

Key Responsibilities:


* Write drivers and firmware for various sensors and microcontrollers (e.g., STM32, Raspberry Pi) using C/C++


* Design PCB schematics and layouts using ECAD software such as Altium or KiCAD


* Assemble and solder prototype circuits and PCBs.


* Debug problems through inspection, measurement, and testing


* Maintain documentation and version control of hardware designs and code.

Requirements:


* Programming experience with microcontrollers and C/C++


* Background in electrical engineering fundamentals and circuit design


* Experience working with both hardware circuits and embedded software.


* Ability to operate lab equipment like oscilloscopes, function generators, and power supplies.

Preferred Qualifications:


* Coursework or projects involving PCB design and layout.


* Experience with 3D printing and design tools like Fusion360 or SolidWorks


* Knowledge of version control systems like Git


* Interest in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of design, electronics, and fabrication

This is an excellent opportunity for an electrical or computer engineering student to gain hands-on research experience in prototyping, testing, and fabricating electronic devices.

The expected time commitment is 10 hours per week.
