Special Education Intern

With the Troy Prep K-12 schools joining the KIPP Capital Region network for the 2022-2023 school year, our KIPP schools will serve more than 2,500 students across the Capital Region.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Special Education Intern is responsible for performing and assisting with various administrative tasks and projects to support the Director of Special Education on the Regional Teaching and Learning Team.

The work will directly impact student services and compliance across the region while also providing a valuable learning and mentoring experience for the intern.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES


* Assist in the development and implementation of Special Education program improvement initiatives.


* Conduct basic research on Special Education trends and best practices to contribute insights for improvement.


* Help organize and coordinate workshops and professional development for KIPP Capital Region's Special Educators and service providers.


* Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, outside service providers, Regional staff and school staff (teachers and leaders).


* Assist in creating content for internal and external communications.


* Assist with various administrative tasks, creation of templates, and record keeping.


* Enhance the bandwidth of the Director of Special Education by directly supporting administrative tasks, including scheduling meetings, recurring meeting preparation, note taking, and handling some correspondence.


* Support the Teaching and Learning Team with maintaining Special Education databases and systems, ensuring accuracy and completeness of information.


* Occasionally step-in to directly support Special Education teachers in schools, as directed by the Director of Special Education.


* Support in the coordination of Annual Review meetings, Transition meetings, testing and Initial meetings to support students in need of services within our region, as directed by the Director of Special Education.
