Speech-Language Pathologist

Riverside University Health System is currently seeking Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) to join the team at both the main Medical Center and the Outpatient Medical-Surgical Center in Moreno Valley, CA.

Under general supervision, SLPs are responsible for evaluating and developing individualized treatment plans to improve speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing functions, enhancing patients' overall health and functional independence.

The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive care across a diverse patient population—from neonates to adults—in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Duties include the assessment and treatment of swallowing disorders, speech and language impairments, and cognitive-communication deficits.

Prior hospital-based experience is preferred.

These positions follow a 5/40 schedule, with rotating weekends and holidays.• Assess the functional status of the patient through the use of objective evaluation techniques, based on standardized assessments for adult and pediatric dysphasia, cognition and speech and language.

• Establish short and long term treatment goals in conjunction with the patient and the physician.

• Administer active, passive, and resistive therapeutic exercises in order to improve coordination and mobility for swallowing and speech.

• Educate patients, families and caregivers regarding home exercise programs and safety with functional activities.

• Provide assessment, instruction and application of prosthetics for laryngectomee patients.

• Educate patients in proper techniques for swallowing and aspiration precautions.

• Recommend use of appropriate and suitable assistive devices for communication.

• Observe patients' response and progress in treatment while reassessing goals.

• Complete appropriate daily documentation in the medical record regarding patients' response to treatment and progress.

• Complete Medicare, Medi-Cal, and managed care documentation for treatment authorizations.

• Provide oversight of daily speech-language pathology treatment schedule.

• Participate in interdisciplinary conferences.

• Participate in the creation of new assessment forms on speech-related topics.

• Assist in writing speech-related policies and procedures and in maintaining the environment of care.

• Provide in-service education to nursing and medical staff on speech-related topics.

• Deliver in-service education to department staff on various therapy-related topics.

• Participate in the development and implementation of the interdisciplinary treatment planning.

• Maintain age-specific competencies of populations ranging in age from neonate through geriatric.

• Serve as clinical instructor for speech pathology interns.
