Clinical Therapist II - Cultural Competency

The Clinical Therapist II is a primarily administrative position focused on utilizing clinical expertise to support marginalized communities in accessing services.

While this role does not involve direct clinical practice, the incumbent may provide brief therapeutic services to help individuals transition into the care system.

Key responsibilities include:


* Collaborating with Cultural Community Liaisons, who are contractors from local communities, to guide their work and ensure contract compliance.


* Developing and implementing outreach and engagement strategies aimed at reducing barriers to services for underserved populations.


* Providing teaching and training to Department staff to enhance the application of culturally informed interventions in their direct practice.


* Co-chairing an advisory committee that includes representatives from various marginalized communities, contributing to steering efforts to improve service accessibility and effectiveness.

This position requires a strong understanding of community dynamics, cultural competence, and the ability to lead initiatives that promote equitable access to care.
Bilingual preferred - not required.

" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">• Interview consumers, relatives, and other involved persons to gather personal and social data relevant to assessing mental or emotional disorders.

• Develop service plans with consumers; evaluate psychological, economic, vocational, educational, physical, health, socialization, and housing needs.

• Coordinate with other staff members (psychiatrists, psychologists, and other program staff) and community agencies in carrying out and designing treatment or rehabilitation plans.

• Assist consumers and other concerned individuals in understanding the nature of major psychological illnesses and their psychosocial effects.

• Assist consumers and their families in understanding and choosing options of mental health treatment.
• Initiate and conduct individual, collateral, group, and family therapy sessions.

• Establish and maintain effective contact with local area mental health resources, including community members, parents, schools, residential facilities, and other agencies/organizations.

• Perform specialized tasks including involuntary hospitalization procedures (5150) and Tarasoff assessments.

• Participate in mental health conferences and local area committees.

• Prepare reports and write correspondence.

• Provide guidance to volunteers and staff.

• Act as a casework consultant to other clinical therapists and other departmental staff.

• Licensed level, within the scope of licensure, may provide clinical supervision to unlicensed clinicians.
