Automation Technician

Flint Hills Resources is seeking an Automation Technician to join our Pipelines and Terminals team.

This position will be located in Austin, TX or Dallas/Fort Worth, TX region.

We're looking for a candidate that is contribution motivated to foster teamwork and able to find solutions to problems in the absence of rigid specifications and standards.

A high level of initiative and critical thinking skills will be essential as you manage technical projects and find and communicate solutions to customers, peers, and management.

This role comes with a company work vehicle, technician tools, and uniforms.

This role also offers a flexible 9/80 work schedule, meaning that there is the potential for every other Friday off depending on workload.

What You Will Do


* Design, implement, and commission Pipeline and Terminal instrumentation, automation systems, process control solutions, and electrical power distribution systems, both onsite and offsite for Texas assets.


* Perform PLC/HMI programming, configure equipment, and assist in design and drawing reviews


* Manage electrical and automation projects from scope definition to commissioning support


* Integrate process control equipment with other process and business systems


* Provide 24/7 production support and troubleshooting for pipeline and terminal automation systems


* Work with Operations and other technicians for site specific support and training opportunities

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)


* Must have a valid driver's license • Two-year technical degree (electrical/instrumentation) plus 2+ years of automation and electrical experience OR high school diploma plus 5+ years of automation and electrical experience


* Experience with PLC programming and equipment


* One or more years of work experience with electrical and instrumentation troubleshooting, including the ability to interpret electrical and P&ID drawings and schematics


* One or more years of work experience with industrial and electrical equipment including but not limited to: motors, valves, actuators, flow meters, flow computers, and transmitters


* Willing and able to respond to calls 24/7 for emergency purposes


* Willing and able to travel 10-25% of the time (most of this being regionally based including overnight)


* Willing and able to participate in the DOT Operator Qualification Program

* Physical ability to frequently stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, reach, handle, bend, twist, climb, and balance; to occasionally sit, kneel, crouch, and crawl


* Ability and willingness to utilize Personal Protective Equipment (for example: hard hat, safety glasses, fire retardant clothing, respirator, safety workbooks, etc.

* Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with frequent carrying of up to 25 pounds)
