Central Sterile Processing Technician

Job Summary:

As a Central Sterile Processing Technician, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the availability and sterility of surgical instruments, supplies, and medical equipment necessary for patient care.

Your responsibilities include:


* Collection, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and supplies.


* Collaborating with other healthcare team members to support and ensure optimal patient care.


* Performing necessary work per manufacturer instructions to disassemble, clean, assemble, sterilize, store, and dispense/deliver/restock equipment and supplies according to prescribed procedures and aseptic techniques.

Experience:


* Minimum of two (2) years' experience in Central Service, Sterile Processing, or Operating Room environment preferred.


* Proficient in sterilization techniques, procedures, infection control, workflow principles, and requirements.


* Experienced in equipment and supply processing, including cleaning, inspection, and assembly.


* Familiarity with surgical supplies and instrument sets preferred.

Responsibilities:

Education:


* High School Diploma or equivalent preferred

Licenses and Certifications:


* Current certification through HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) required.


* Must successfully complete and maintain LA City Fire Card certification at the time of hire or within the first 30 days of employment.

 

Skills:


* Strong understanding of sterilization techniques and infection control.


* Ability to operate and maintain sterilization equipment.


* Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.


* Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

Specific Responsibilities:

Accountability and Leadership:


* Accountability to the unit Manager and/or the Director of the department.


* Ability to take direction from the Lead Central Sterile Processing Technician role.


* Assist in collaboration with department manager and lead technician in the day-to-day operations of the Sterile Processing Department. 

Assembly and Sterilization:


* Assemble all instrument procedure trays, packs, supply/case/emergency carts following prescribed manner.


* Sterilize instruments, equipment, linen, and supplies using various types of sterilizers following correct procedures for the type of item being sterilized.
