CAMP CONNECTIONS THERAPEUTIC ASSISTANT

 

JOB SUMMARY:  This position reports to the Site Supervisor and is responsible for providing assistance to the Therapeutic Group Leader by reinforcing concepts/skills that have been introduced, helping maintain an organized and engaging classroom environment, and completing necessary tasks to carry out classroom activities. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Minimum of 12 College Credits

Experience working with children

Valid driver’s license 

Must be at least 18 years of age.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Maintains a safe, healthful, and therapeutic environment for all students.

 

Assists the Therapeutic Group Leader with preparation and execution of daily activities.

 

Conducts planned instructional sessions (working individually or with small groups) as directed by the Therapeutic Group Leader.

 

Models appropriate social interaction with students.

 

Keeps data on each student.

 

Completes daily routine tasks such as taking attendance, writing progress notes.

 

Assists in completing necessary paperwork to demonstrate students’ progress.

 

Encourages students to cooperate with the treatment program by giving positive reinforcement and support as needed.

 

Reports significant changes in behavior, attitudes or physical conditions of students to a higher level staff member. 

 

Assists in the care of classroom furniture, instructional materials and A/V equipment.

 

Supervises the classroom, volunteers, and practicum students in the Therapeutic Group Leader’s absence.

 

Assists with student transportation as necessary.

 

Attends mandatory camp orientation.

 

Acts as a representative of the Barber National Institute while in the community.

 

Establishes working relationships with other multi-disciplinary team members of the Barber National Institute.

 

Other:

Is aware that duties may be added or deleted from the position as deemed necessary by the Director.

Demonstrates knowledge of fire and emergency evacuation procedures and equipment.

Understands that added work or irregular hours may be required due to government agencies or funding source requests for special assignments.

Understands that other duties and assignments may be added or deleted as necessary due to funding requirements or regulations.
