Superintendent I (Austin, TX) – Austin Bridge & Road

Austin Bridge & Road has an outstanding opportunity for a Superintendent I to join our Heavy Civil project team in Austin, Texas.

The Superintendent's primary purpose is to oversee and manage day-to-day field construction activities.

Depending on the project's size, this role may involve leading an entire project or managing a specific portion of a larger one.

Responsibilities:


* Oversee day-to-day field construction activities, ensuring efficient operations, adherence to project plans and schedules, and strict compliance with safety protocols.


* Implement safety plans, designate first aid areas, address safety hazards, and accompany OSHA inspectors during site visits to ensure overall jobsite safety.


* Collaborate with the Project Manager to plan the jobsite layout, including office placement, utility hookups, storage, parking, and crane/hoist locations, while directing initial surveys and verifying site dimensions through third-party surveys.


* Develop and manage daily and weekly craft schedules aligned with the overall construction timeline, providing clear instructions on methods, manpower, and expected timelines, and resolving ambiguities in plans proactively.


* Plan, monitor, and optimize the usage and costs of materials, supplies, and equipment while ensuring timely ordering and addressing maintenance and utilization requirements.


* Inspect all construction work, including subcontracted activities, to maintain high-quality standards, addressing deficiencies promptly and overseeing corrections to uphold accountability.


* Provide technical support to resolve construction issues, explore alternative methods to improve efficiency and quality, and work closely with architects, engineers, and consultants to address challenges.


* Assist the Project Manager in tracking and managing labor and equipment costs, evaluating schedule impacts, and implementing necessary adjustments to optimize productivity and budget adherence.


* Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local construction laws, codes, and company policies on employment, compensation, and labor relations.


* Foster strong relationships with owners, architects, consultants, and stakeholders by addressing and resolving issues at the lowest practical level.


* Promote team growth through training, career planning, and leadership opportunities, recommending merit increases, promotions, and transitions from hourly to salary roles.
