Optician IV (2nd shift 2:00pm - 10:30pm)
Under minimum supervision, the Optician IV will fabricate optical parts following established procedures utilizing one or more standard processes.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
* Hands-on Optical Fabrication - 75%
+ Performs all the following HSPP fabrication processes: cleaning, shaping/edging, generating, beveling, inspecting, polishing, blocking
+ Be self-sufficient and able to maintain tooling for generating, grinding, polishing, edging processes on CNC and non-CNC equipment/processes including spindle polishing
+ Able to use Interferometer to interpret surface irregularity
+ Set up, operate and maintain production process equipment in compliance with standard and non-standard operating procedures
+ Work with production engineers to reduce cycle time and implement process improvements
* Material Handling & Safety - 5%
+ Follow proper material handling procedures for each material used
+ Follow proper safety rules and precautions, policies and procedures specific to fabrication processes, including the use of protective apparel
* Tools & Solvent Use
+ Use hand tools such as micrometer for diameter of lens, depth gauge with bar for sag, drop gauge on fixture for wedge, drop gauge for center thickness, calipers for diameter of lens, dial comparator for curve of radii, interferometer for radius, vapor degreaser air gun
+ Demonstrate proper safety rules and precautions, while using acetone and other solvents, including the use of protective apparel
* Print & Specifications - 5%
+ Read complex prints and specifications for optical substrates
+ Work from drawings to verify physical dimensions
* Paperwork & Recordkeeping - 5%
+ Complete necessary paperwork and record data manually and by using a computer
* Training & supervise - 5%
+ May train and supervise in Lead capacity employees in one or more areas of fabrication
+ Have clarification of objectives, participation, communication and an active willingness to help your peers, technicians, process engineers and supervisors to meet customer deliveries and company objectives
+ Help management to promote teamwork participation
Education & Experience
* High School Diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience
* Must demonstrate expertise in grinding area and have basic knowledge in one other area of the fabrication processes, possess 6 years of related experience or education
Skills & Other Requirements
* Mathematical Skills
+ Ability to calculate figures and perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers, decimals and fractions.
+ Ability to use a scientific calculator and perform basic calculations.
