Process Automation Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity for a Process Automation Engineer within our Process Automation (PA) business unit.

This role involves working on both project and service engineering.

As a successful candidate, you will join our expanding Sub-Saharan Engineering team, supporting Triconex Safety System, Foxboro DCS, and Modicon PLC opportunities across various process automation industries in the region.

This position is based in Johannesburg, South Africa and reports to the Territory Engineering Manager, balancing workload between projects and site services, including onshore/offshore and international assignments.

• Serve as the technical focal point for clients in South Africa and internationally, for both onshore and offshore assets.

• Provide remote support for projects in other Sub-Saharan Africa countries.

• Conduct site surveys and provide detailed reports and updates for installed bases.

• Support the growth of Projects and Services in Sub-Saharan Africa by assisting sales efforts and acting as the engineering focal point.

• Participate in factory and site acceptance testing and deliver site installations for both local and regional projects.

• Be an active member of the "24-hour telephone support" team, eventually supporting multiple countries.

• In the long term, assist in recruiting and developing new engineering resources in South Africa to meet evolving business needs.

Qualifications

What qualifications will make you successful in this role?

We are looking for engineering graduates who strive to build a career in Automation & Control Systems and MUST have the following minimum requirements:

• Be available to travel/work internationally across Africa for extended periods.

• Minimum Engineering Degree (Electrical / Electronics / Control Systems / Instrumentation) or other accepted but with proven relevant Automation experience.

• Demonstrated 1-3 years working for major DCS or PLC/SCADA vendor or end user in industrial software and / or control and automation capacity.

• Excellent proven computing knowledge and MS Office application.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills (English).

• Valid driving licence for South Africa.

• South African citizenship

The following will be an added advantage:

• Recognised certificates in Instrumentation and / or PLC Programming.

• Experience in Foxboro DCS, Triconex or Modicon PLC system.

• Mining Industry experience, in a Process Automation role

• Valid international travelling document(s).

• Commissioning skills, including but not exclusive; diagnostics, fault finding, logic testing, leading Site Acceptance sign off.

• Experience with MES software (e.g., Wonderware, Ignition, or similar).

• Knowledge of industrial automation and control systems.

• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles.
