Job Description :
The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has openings for Analysts in the Police Accountability Unit (PAU).
PAU investigates and prosecutes cases involving excessive use of force, perjury, bribery, and other criminal misconduct on the part of law enforcement officers.
The unit conducts complex and challenging investigations, often in concert with police agencies' internal affairs teams, that involve substantial video, electronic, and documentary evidence.
Analysts are responsible for providing highly skilled analytical support, as well as litigation and administrative support, to the Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) in the unit.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Working directly and independently with ADAs and the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau, Department of Investigations, Civilian Complaint Review Board, and other local, state, and federal external partner agencies on long term investigations and prosecutions of PAU cases.
* Conducting preliminary review of civilian complaints of police misconduct reported to PAU to determine whether they merit further investigation.
* Collecting and analyzing data relevant to specific PAU investigations and cases, including but not limited to:
+ Performing in-depth open source and social media searches of investigative targets, and create profiles based on the results.
+ Reviewing and analyzing data collected from cellphones and other electronic devices and mapping cellphone location data.
+ Evaluating and summarizing contents of email, social media, and other electronic communication accounts.
+ Analyzing banking, PayPal, Venmo, and other financial accounts.
+ Reviewing and transcribing recorded evidence, such as surveillance video, body-worn camera footage, recorded inmate telephone calls, and audio recordings of interviews.
* Drafting correspondence and legal documents, including subpoenas, letters of preservation, and court orders.
* Assisting ADAs with preparation for interviews of witnesses and targets, and participating in and taking thorough, accurate notes during such interviews.
* Creating charts, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and other demonstrative exhibits for investigative use as well as for Grand Jury and trial.
* Communicating investigative findings effectively to other team members and testifying before the Grand Jury, at trial, and in other judicial proceedings regarding those results as necessary.
* Coordinating case schedules with courts, law enforcement officials, witnesses, and defense attorneys.
* Assisting ADAs in the redaction and preparation of documents for disclosure to defense attorneys.
* Performing related administrative and clerical tasks as assigned.
