General Definition of Work

Performs intermediate semiskilled work ensuring proper sanitation, cleaning, and maintenance of City buildings, inspecting work, and related work as apparent or assigned.

Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor.

Special Note:

May require non-standard or rotating shift work to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

The ideal candidate will have experience performing custodial activities.

Be detail oriented and have good time management and organizational skills, as well as follow through.

It is essential that they take ownership of the responsibility for the cleaning of City facilities.

Essential Functions

Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, locker rooms, and customer counters.

Stocks supplies.

Vacuums, sweeps, and mops floors daily, including hallways, offices, meeting rooms, and restrooms.

Performs monthly, semi-annual, and annual floor cleaning, polishing, and maintenance.

Empty and clean trash containers and recycling from offices to main containers and outside dumpsters.

Reviews Custodian I areas of work and performs duties as needed or required.

Maintains exterior areas and entryways, which may include sweeping walkways and cleaning mats, picking up and disposing of trash and debris.

Cleans windows.

Operates and maintains motor vehicles or other work-related equipment requiring a valid driver's license.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and moderate experience in janitorial services, operations, and techniques, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Qualifications

Must meet and maintain all training and education requirements for the position.

Valid Driver's License of the appropriate class.

The Custodian position will require a second background check to be conducted by the police (due to the sensitivity of the police facility).

The offer of employment is contingent upon successfully passing the background checks.
