R&D Fabrication Tech I

POSITION PURPOSE

The R&D Fabrication Tech I performs basic fabrication work in the lab to support unit modification for testing and supports in the design and build of proof-of-concept models and prototypes.

This role supports welding services for all welding processes necessary in support of the Global Engineering initiatives.

The Fabrication tech works in team environment to support the operation and maintenance of all aspects of the R&D Lab including the test facility, equipment, and tools.   

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES


* Fabricate and assemble test fixtures from both written and verbal specifications


* Assist in Lab Setup for unit install and removal


* Install and monitor sensors in various measurement devices associated with product testing and equipment.


* Support in the prototype assembly and modification involving heat transfer components using various materials and methods of construction


* Assist in product development projects


* Conduct standard pipe weld service to the Condenser Test Facility


* Prepare, fit, and weld components and piping using resistance, TIG, MIG and stick welding processes with varied forms of sheet metal.


* Assisting with the preventive maintenance and upkeep of the R&D laboratory facilities and equipment


* Participates in BAC’s technology and product development processes through observation, study, and fabrication of heat transfer products, components and prototypes.

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS


* High School Diploma, GED or Technical Trade Certification


* 1+ years of experience in advanced welding techniques utilizing multiple welding disciplines


* Certification in powered lift trucks/platform scissors lifts preferred


* Advanced pipe fitting and metal fabrication techniques


* Operation of metal sheers, box brake and press brake


* Machining tools experience required inclusive of array of hand tools


* Experience with micrometers, calipers, dial and digital indicators


* Proven ability to read drawings and schematics


* Self-direction and ability to work independently


* Fabricate design concepts utilizing wood, plastic, and metal materials


* Good written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well in a group


* Good computer skills

 

NATURE & SCOPE

The R&D Fabrication Tech I reports to the R&D Lab Manager.

This role interfaces with multiple engineering teams and the production environment.
