Automotive Service Supervisor

ABOUT THE POSITION

The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County.

A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.

The County of Riverside Fleet Services Department has an opportunity for an Automotive Services Supervisor based in Riverside.

The Automotive Services Supervisor will oversee a major repair facility servicing a significantly high number of light-duty vehicles, medium and heavy-duty trucks.

The supervisor will be expected to e nsure compliance with manufacturer, Department of Transportation and Federal guidelines and regulations.

This position requires a candidate with a strong interpersonal skill-set as they will lead a group of mechanics in all phases of bumper-to-bumper mechanical maintenance and repair, including enforcing safety regulations and standards.

Competitive candidates will have fleet experience with diagnostic, preventive maintenance and repair of light-duty vehicles, medium and heavy-duty trucks, including diagnosis of electrical, engine and wheel and axel assembly.

This experience is critical for the m anagement of inventory: tools, various automotive parts and fluids.

While possession of ASE certifications are not required, they are highly desired.

The Purchasing and Fleet Department's primary function is to provide vehicles, goods and services to other County Departments and agencies within the County of Riverside.

Providing a unified purchasing system that ensures integrity and fairness, with centralized responsibility for oversight of solicitation, vendor selection, negotiation, award, contract management, reporting, disposal of surplus property and emergency logistical support for the benefit of Riverside County agencies.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Receive and write descriptions of vehicle malfunction; perform preliminary diagnosis using experience or road test data.

• Assign vehicle to mechanic for repair; pull and examine vehicle maintenance file; dispatch vehicle to proper vendor if within warranty limits.

• Supervise, mentor, train, and evaluate subordinates on vehicle repairs and work day routines.

• Maintain vehicle maintenance history files, work orders and vehicle usage records utilizing specialized information software; monitor preventive maintenance programs.

• Monitor safety and emission standards set by state; evaluate requests for new or replacement tools and equipment; instruct and enforce work safety program.

• May road test vehicles to confirm diagnosis and repair.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Graduation from high school, possession of a Certificate of Proficiency issued by the California State Board of Education, or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D.

examination.

Experience
Three years as a journey level automotive mechanic.

Other Requirements
Possession of a valid California Driver License.
