Job Description:

Role and Responsibilities

Recent technology advances in generative AI and other cutting-edge workflows have led to sharp increases in energy consumption within systems and data centers.

At Hewlett Packard Labs, our research team is inventing and developing the technologies for future system architectures to enable systems and applications of the future.

The Hewlett Packard Labs research team is unique in the world, in that it focuses on all levels of the architectural stack from core technologies and infrastructure to applications, and many layers in between.

We offer the opportunity to do cutting edge research in a multi-disciplinary team and see it become real.

We are looking for candidates with a PhD (or equivalent) in mechanical or chemical engineering with expertise in direct two-phase liquid cooling, who are interested in a researcher and/or advanced development position.

We expect candidates to have demonstrated the ability to frame, execute, and communicate research, for example, via papers published in top-tier conferences or journals, patents, as well as build substantial artifacts that validate their research.

We value the ability to work independently and in teams, excellent verbal and written communication skills, thermal sciences and engineering background, and the desire to learn new techniques to solve problems.

Laboratory and simulation skills are a significant plus.

Primary areas of focus will be in a) direct liquid cooling two-phase heat transfer within high performance systems; b) fluid delivery mechanisms; c) fluid chemistry and characterization; and d) simulation of two-phase heat transfer and fluid flow.

Specific activities will include:

* Design and performance evaluation of two-phase heat transfer components including evaporators, heat exchangers and fluid delivery devices.

* Working fluid design including prevention of bio-growth and corrosion.

* Simulation of nucleate boiling, evaporative spray cooling and liquid loops.

* Data center thermal characterization.

* Physical laboratory equipment operation.
