HEALTH EDUCATION ASSISTANT I/II

ABOUT THE POSITION

The County of Riverside's University Health System (RUHS), has an opportunity for a Health Education Assistant I/II (HEA) with the Public Health Department'sMaternal, Child, Adolescent Healthprogram (MCAH).

MCAH seeks to empower the entire community in preventing disease and promoting optimum wellness for individuals and families of Riverside County utilizing evidenced based knowledge from nursing, social, and public health science.

With an equity lens, MCAH partners with the community to achieve positive health outcomes for individuals, and families throughout Riverside County.

The HEA selected for this role will work in theBlack Infant Health Program to provide services for pregnant and post-partum women enrolled in the program who identify as African American.

The position requires occasional home visitation, case management services, conducting assessments and developmental screenings, group facilitation, outreach activities, working with a team, assisting with chart audits and completion of chart documentation.

The ideal candidate will have:


* BA with a major in Health Education or a related field


* Knowledge of health education principles, methods, techniques


* Experience preparing educational materials and presenting information


* Solid understanding of the African culture and African-American women


* Skillful and proficient English writing, grammar usage, spelling, punctuation, format and style


* Solid understanding of office procedures, including preparing reports and correspondence

Schedule:9/80; telecommuting opportunities after 6-months

The Health Education Assistant I is an entry and trainee level class.

Incumbents participate in the routine phases of community health and/or patient education work, which broaden in scope, and variety as training is received.

Such work is subject to detailed and frequent review, which lessens, as incumbents become more experienced.

After acquiring the needed experience, incumbents may be promoted to the working level class of Heath Education Assistant II.

The Health Education Assistant II assists in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of health education programs within major functional areas of the Department of Public Health, Department of Mental Health or Office on Aging.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Black Infant Health Program Specific:
• Works to provide competent services and resources to the African American/Black birthing and postpartum eligible population.
• Assists with BIH sustainability through ongoing medical provider and other referral source, education, and networking with internal and external customers.
• May assist with outreach
