Advanced Practice Provider - Neurology (Full Time, Day shift)

Job Summary

Responsible for providing comprehensive care at an advanced practice level to children and their families through assessment, treatment clinical management, ordering/or interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests, teaching, and participating/conducting research.

Works collaboratively with physician partners, administration, nursing, and health care teams to develop and implement clinical program needs. 

Job Specific Duties


* Acts as a resource for patients, families, staff, or community groups providing education and emotional support. 


* Develops, implements, evaluates, monitors, manages, and modifies a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes. 


* Performs comprehensive and problem focused history and physician examinations.


* Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering patient care across departments and promoting optimal patient outcomes.


* Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory tests, radiological studies, and consultations. 


* Participates in quality improvement programs.  


* Performs procedures as demonstrated through competency. 


* Accountable for maintaining current expertise and skills in order to facilitate a high quality of clinical performance and to promote professional growth. 


* Orders and/or prescribes medications for inpatients/outpatients.


* Participates in other necessary activities associated with patient care (writing daily progress notes, coordinating clinical care, discharge planning, etc.). 


* Writes orders, monitors/alters drug therapies, and performs other procedures with education and experience within established protocol in collaborative relationship with a Physician(s). 


* Recognizes need for physician consultation and guidance as indicated within experience and scope of practice.


* Acts as a preceptor for APP students.

Minimum Job Requirements


* Master's degree in nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)


* APRN Licensure issued by the State of Florida - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment.


* Certification by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioner Certification Board (AANPCB), or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment.


* American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment


* American Heart Association PALS required for inpatient APPs


* Level II Background Check If required for this position or department


* Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification required for PICU, CICU and Neurocritical Care Units.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


* Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification preferred


* Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families, and co-workers.


* Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.


* Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.


* Ability to problem solve to formulate a plan of care and evaluate the patient's response to care.


* Ability to interpret, adapt, and react calmly under stressful conditions.
