Role reports to: Asia Pacifi c Regional Tax Director

Location: Tokyo, Japan

Travel %: 5%

What you will do

As a key member of our local Finance team, the Tax Manager will oversee tax compliance, planning and risk management for Japan and selected jurisdictions within the Asia Pacifi c region, including corporate income tax and transfer pricing.

This role is responsible for ensuring compliance while actively supporting tax planning strategies and collaborating closely with business teams to optimize tax outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage tax filings and workpapers for Japan and selected Asia Pacifi c jurisdictions, including reviewing the Japan income tax return prepared by co-source provider(s), ensuring accuracy, completeness, and proper disclosure.

• Address transfer pricing risks, prepare relevant documentation, and facilitate Advance Pricing Agreements as needed.

• Coordinate and manage tax authority audits, inquiries, and notices efficiently.

• Collaborate with finance, legal, business and operations teams to ensure tax matters are aligned across the organization.

• Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders on financial and tax implications of business decisions and transactions.

• Stay informed of relevant tax law changes in Japan, the US, regionally and internationally and proactively identify potential risks or opportunities for the organization.

• Assist in identifying opportunities for tax process automation and improvements.

• Manage external providers and outsourced projects with a focus on cost-effectiveness.

What we are looking for

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Law, or related field.

• A minimum of 6 years of experience in Japan corporate income tax, either in-house or in a public accounting environment.

• Strong understanding of Japan tax laws and regulations, including transfer pricing and consumption tax.

• Knowledge of and experience with JGAAP and US GAAP.

• Excellent analytical, communication, and team collaboration skills.
