Orthopedic Tech Medical Assistant - Full Time

Position Title: Orthopedic Technician

Position Purpose:

The Orthopedic Technician will provide support through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication.

Maintains all applicable KHI Policies and Procedures. 

 

Key Responsibilities 



* Escorts patient to exam room and prepares patient for exam including vital signs, history, and reason for seeking care


* Cross trains in data entry, balancing of accounts, charges fees and collect payments due. 


* Schedules/confirms appointments


* Maintains and facilitates communication between patients, family and clinical staff.   


* Reports as necessary to Public Health at direction of provider 


* Maintains work area including exam rooms, supplies, medication and immunizations


* Performs CLIA waived lab tests and obtains specimens 


* Performs proficiency testing and runs controls for waived tests


* May perform venipuncture


* Participates in division meetings


* Responsible for patient care under the direct supervision (in the office suite or exam room) of a Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner. 


* Reports as necessary to Public Health at direction of provider.  Maintain work area including exam rooms, supplies, medication and immunizations.  Participate in clinical division meetings.


* Applies, adjusts and removes casts, splints, immobilization devices and traction


* Measures and fits patients for braces and other orthopedic devices

 

Required Qualifications 

Required Education: 


* High School Diploma or Equivalent

Required Certification: 


* American Heart Association BLS certification


* Orthopedic Technologist Certification within 6 months of hire


* Must meet one of the following criteria:

☐  Has a Medical Assistant Certification from either the American Association of Medical assistants or the American Medical Technologists 

☐  Has attended an approved medical assistant training program, a copy of the diploma or transcripts are on file, by one of the following:

a.

The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs; or

b.

The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools
