Corrosion and Materials Engineer
FHR in Corpus Christi, TX is looking for a Corrosion and Materials Engineer to proactively manage damage mechanisms on process piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and other refinery equipment.
What You Will Do
* Follow safety rules and regulations and promote a positive safety culture
* Provide corrosion and materials engineering support for the facility, including material selection for projects and influence corrosion control designs for new construction and asset changes
* Identify damage mechanisms and assist with inspection recommendations to ensure the damage is effectively identified.
* Participate in equipment maintenance scoping and damage mechanism service life evaluation.
Support or conduct API 579 fitness for service assessments
* Apply industry standards to advance fixed equipment degradation reliability and mechanical integrity.
* Contribute to the development and updating of corrosion control documents risk based inspection (RBI), injection and mix point, HTHA, etc.
* Maintain corrosion-related Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and reporting
* Participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and recommend corrosion control solutions
* Assist in maintaining corrosion program standards, procedures, technical guidelines, and forms
* Understand and develop relationships with internal stakeholders
* Apply economic and risk-based thinking in assessing asset integrity/reliability and threat mitigation effectiveness
* Ability to work in hot, cold, or inclement climate conditions
* Ability to climb ladders and stairs to reach equipment
* Ability to provide infield technical support during maintenance events, including confined space entry.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
* Bachelor's degree in engineering or relevant technical field (preferably Chemical, Corrosion, Metallurgical, or Materials Science/Engineering)
* Working experience with corrosion control and damage mechanisms in a refining or petrochemical environments
* Minimum 3-5 years relevant experience
* Up to 5% travel
* Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job.
What Will Put You Ahead
* Knowledge of industry standards, RAGAGEP, relating to damage mechanisms and corrosion control
* Experience with failure analysis and incident investigation techniques
* Experience with risk based inspection (RBI)
* Experience with corrosion control documents
* Basic knowledge of fixed equipment design and material selection process
This role is subject to the Transportation Workers Identification Credentialing (TWIC) rule and requires the successful candidate to obtain a TWIC identification badge, allowing for un-escorted access to the facility within a specific time period.
