Park Interpreter

The Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District has opportunities for Park Interpreters at the Gilman Ranch/San Timoteo Schoolhouse in Banning and at the Santa Rosa Plateau/Alamos Schoolhouse near Murrieta.

The Park Interpreter will assist in developing and conducting a natural science and historical interpretive program in an area of the Regional Park and Open Space District; assist in training other personnel in interpretive techniques; plan events, assist with presentations and tours, drive to different locations, prepare scripts/programs; and do other work as required.

Competitive experience includes event planning and interpretive writing such as writing scripts or programs for a park or site.

Additionally, experience in educating children and the public is highly desired.

This position requires being outdoors, so applicants who enjoy being outdoors or with a naturalist, park ranger, or similar background are encouraged to apply.

A valid California driver's license is required, as the Park Interpreter will be required to travel throughout Riverside County to assist at different sites.

The schedule for these positions is Tuesday-Saturday 8:00am-4:30pm.

W eekend availability is required.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Plans and develops a natural science and historical interpretive and conservation education program in a district park area; administers one or more interpretive centers; assists in construction and/or the maintenance of interpretive buildings, exhibits, and nature trails.

• Organizes and participates in nature walks, campfire programs, and other natural science and historical interpretive activities.

• Assists in training other employees and volunteers in interpretive methods and techniques.

• Organizes volunteer and docent groups to assist in interpretive center operations; performs natural science research of average difficulty.

• Compiles information and writes or edits natural science articles, reports, and other interpretive program materials; Makes reports and recommendations.

• Coordinates with schools and community organizations in regard to conservation, natural science features and historical sites of Riverside County.
