Technical Superintendent

Position Title : Technical Superintendent

Reports To: Technical Manager

Schedule : Monday through Friday business hours and additional as required

Location : TBD

Position Supervised: Ship staff and Contractors as required

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering and/or Naval Architecture

Experience: 15 years of combined experience sailing as a Licensed Engineering Officer and working in a shoreside technical role.

Shipyard experience will be accepted in lieu of shipboard experience.

Past dry-dock or major repair supervisory experience

Languages: English

Traits: Ability to travel as necessary for projects, ability to work well with others, self-starter, proactive, flexible with work schedule, well organized.

Technical asset management.

Analytical, problem-solving, time management, project management, and decision-making skills.

Knowledge of technical operations for the vessel types managed.

Knowledge of propulsion plant onboard vessels managed

Preferred Qualifications

Skills/Software: Working experience with Excel, Word, and Outlook

Education: Maritime Academy.

USCG, Unlimited third Engineer's license or greater

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:



* Ensure vessels are operated in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner, ensuring compliance with Class and Statutory and Company regulations while protecting asset value


* Promotes a professional relationship with the officers and crew.

Set clear goals and expectations and coach and develop Chief Engineers in line with Competence and Performance Management objectives.

Participate in interviews and make recommendations regarding new hires and promotions.


* Responsible for the day-to-day technical operation and management of assigned fleet vessels.


* Reviews vessel performance reports to monitor operating condition and efficiency.


* Reviews all vessel engineering logs to verify machinery operation is consistent with policies and procedures and to ensure compliance with equipment guidelines.


* Monitors vessel maintenance in NSE to track equipment history and over-due jobs ensuring company maintenance intervals are followed.


* Reviews vessel planned maintenance programs, Standard Jobs, and machinery histories.

Makes recommendations for improvements in maintenance cycles; develops equipment life-cycle plans.


* Reviews equipment status with Master and Chief Engineer; prepares worklists for vessel and Work Orders as necessary for Contractor assistance; monitors progress.


* Prepares, coordinates and schedules vessel voyage repairs.


* Attends vessel for regularly scheduled ship visits to inspect status of machinery spaces, propulsion systems, cargo handling equipment, accommodations, and deck.
