Public Health Microbiology Program Manager (Microbiology Training Program) - Hybrid/Richmond, CA

SUMMARY 

The CDPH Center for Laboratory Sciences, Operations Branch’s Public Health Microbiologist (PHM) Training Program seeks a Public Health Microbiology Program Manager to work closely and collaborate with public health laboratories in the state, local counties, and the California Association of Public Health Lab Directors (CAPHLD) to manage and facilitate the Public Health Microbiologist Training program. 

Applicants must be able to maintain consistent and regular attendance; communicate regularly and effectively (orally and in writing) in dealing with the public, collaborating agencies, and employees; develop and maintain knowledge and skills related specifically to Public Health Microbiology tasks, methodologies, materials, tools, and equipment; complete assignments in a timely and efficient manner; and adhere to departmental policies and procedures.

This position will oversee the PHM program trainers, lab technician, and office aid, as well as assist with managing trainees and program volunteers.

Tasks will involve managing and working with emails, forms and documents, online platforms, and resources, coordinating inventory, purchases, and schedules.

Experience with laboratory safety, supply requisitions and ordering, inventory management, and equipment maintenance is necessary.

Maintaining an organized work environment, multi-tasking, working well in a team environment, managing a team, and being detail-oriented are essential skills for this position.

The hourly range for this position is $57.69 - $63.12 per hour depending on experience/ qualifications.

This is a part-time position, up to and including 20 hours a week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 


* Oversees PHM program staff attendance, duties, schedules, and resources needed for PHM training.


* Works closely with the California Association of Public Health Lab Directors (CAPHLD) and participating California Department of Public Health (CDPH) laboratories to coordinate and facilitate the PHM training program.


* Ensures adherence to COVID-19 and laboratory safety and practices as well as CDPH policies and procedures.


* Leads the coordination of CAPHLD and PHM trainers to update and develop training curriculum, resources, and materials; including developing deadlines, tracking deliverables, and implementation of all updates and improvements on all platforms used by the training program such as e-learning training platforms.


* Addresses training program needs and priorities as they develop; gives technical and administrative consultations to PHM trainers as needed, approving changes of curriculum, resources, and material improvements.
