Consulting Associate, Environmental Engineer (Entry Level)

ERM is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented, entry-level Environmental Engineer to join our growing team in the Portland, Oregon office.

Working under the direction of project managers and partners, the successful candidate will work on a wide variety of site investigation, remediation, compliance, and hazardous waste management projects throughout Pacific Northwest.

This opportunity includes projects that utilize ERM's technical experts to implement innovative and regulatory driven engineering and remediation technologies, unique subsurface contaminated site investigations, and complex wastewater compliance projects, all while building the required experience to obtain your professional registration. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:


* Conduct field work, including soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, soil vapor, and indoor air sampling, aquifer testing, drilling oversight and soil logging, soil boring and monitoring well installation, well development, purging and sampling, remedial and wastewater treatment pilot tests, and remedial system operation and maintenance.


* Assist with remediation system operation and maintenance, construction, and subcontractor management.


* Compile, analyze, and evaluate data; assist in report preparation.


* Assist with environmental compliance reports, engineering design reports, sampling and investigation work plans, and quality assurance plans.


* Develop health and safety plans including job hazard analyses.


* Assist in ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.


* Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.


* Communicate with subcontractors, regulatory agents, tenants, and clients during field activities.

REQUIREMENTS:


* Bachelors in environmental, civil, chemical, mechanical engineering.


* 0+ years of relevant experience.


* Strong work ethic and willingness/interest in field assignments.


* Detail-oriented with solutions and results-oriented aptitude and hands-on trouble-shooting/problem-solving skills.


* Ability to perform data manipulation and analysis in Excel or similar program.


* Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.


* Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills.


* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.


* Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision.


* Ability to perform field work standing or walking for full field days.


* Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.


* Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:


* Masters environmental, civil, chemical, mechanical engineering.


* Knowledge of aquatic chemistry, chemical fate and transport, hydrology, and/or groundwater hydrology.


* EIT certification.
