POSITION SUMMARY 

This civilian evidence technician position is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the evidence stored in the property/evidence repository of the department, to include digital/video evidence.

This includes the proper receipt, storage, preservation, and disposal of, with proper accountability.

This position reports directly to the Manager of: Public Safety Administration. 

 

POSITION ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES 


* Processing of daily submitted evidence to include receiving items. 



* Updating and maintaining the Records Management Evidence Database as evidence is received, transferred, and/or released to an owner, other agency, courts, or investigations. 



* Complete weekly evidence reporting to FDLE, along with updating evidence database and case files to reflect items received back into evidence inventory. 



* Maintain paper files on each case, ensuring that all pertinent information regarding chain of custody is maintained in the file. 



* Organize Quarterly destruction of evidence that has been identified for destruction. 



* Upon request, providing the SAO with information regarding the status of an item that has been transferred to FDLE for analysis. 



* Conduct appropriate database checks, (to include, CJNET, NCIC/FCIC, Criminal History inquiry), and the appropriate paperwork prior to the release of a firearm to an owner. 



* Upon request, review, redact, and submit body worn camera footage to the State Attorney’s Office or public FOIA requests. 



* Complete monthly validations and reporting. 



* Audit and inventory preparation. 



* Maintain and order evidence supplies as needed. 



* Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned. 



* Assist SIU, on occasion, as evidence custodian during interdiction operations. 

 

REQUIRED FOR ALL HCAA JOBS 


* In the event of an emergency or disaster that impacts the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority (HCAA), an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s department or the HCAA Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

Such assignments may be before, during, or after an emergency/disaster. 



* Complies with all HCAA Policies, Procedures, and Standards. 



* Performs other duties as assigned. 

COMPENSATION 

$25.13-$27.50 

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 


* High School graduate or equivalent 



* 1-3 years of experience in property/evidence field, or other Public Safety related fields



* Must be able to pass the Police Department background investigation including a polygraph assessment and pre-employment drug screening.  

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 


* Law Enforcement experience/background 



* Certified Evidence Technician – PEAF (Must receive certification within 6 months of onboarding) 



* College Degree in Criminal Justice or related field
