Job Summary

Mechanical/Civil Engineering Intern

The CITGO Lemont Refinery is searching for a Mechanical Engineer intern who will provide assistance on various projects for either the Project Engineering, Reliability or Maintenance Department and will become familiar with the refinery organization and work processes while learning refinery safe work practices.

The intern will work on various projects throughout the refinery under the direction of a more senior engineer.

This position is a paid 12-week summer internship.

A presentation covering all aspects of the internship experience and accomplishments will be expected at the end of the term.

Minimum Qualifications



* Must be enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering Bachelor Degree program


* Must be at least a sophomore status in college (completion of freshman year) with an overall GPA of 3.0 or above


* Available to work forty hours (40) per week


* Must have valid driver's license


* Candidate must possess strong analytical and communication skills and be able to work in a team environment


* Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Eligibility
+ Eligibility Requirements: The Maritime Transportation Security Act requires all persons who will need unescorted access to a regulated facility to have a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), issued in accordance with the rules established by the United States Coast Guard and the Transportation Security Administration.

Job Duties

Interns will be responsible for providing assistance with various engineering duties which may include: basic engineering research, supporting the development of various engineering packages, updating engineering records and various databases and provide technical assistance.

Consult with Senior Project Engineers in the group, and complete site visits in support of ongoing engineering efforts.

Site visits may include witnessing of site activities and scoping and verification for projects.
