Head of Legal, Japan
Description
- Be an active member of the local management team as well as a solid business partner, actively participate in discussions and decisions, and proactively provide legal counsel, strategic guidance and value-added support to the leadership of Kenvue Japan
- Be able to proactively assess legal risks to the business and work with management to devise and implement policies and procedures to address and manage those risks including preventative actions, trainings and communications
- Possess the communications and other skills to be able to positively influence management to make well considered decisions and achieve compliant growth
- Provide sound guidance on and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations applicable to Kenvue Japan, including any relevant industry codes, and train business partners on relevant areas of law
- Challenge the status quo and proactively take leadership of various innovative initiatives, shape the strategy, and deliver outcomes satisfactory to stakeholders in a timely manner
- Collaborate with business partners and compliance colleagues to reinforce the Kenvue Way and ethical business decision-making
- Be the legal director for Kenvue Japan who is authorized to engage and manage outside counsel including providing appropriate budgets for outside counsel and ground rules for the business on when and how to request outside legal services/support
- Manage or support, as the case may be, litigation, resolution or disputes, and internal and external investigations related to the business
- Provide legal input and guidance to the management of Kenvue Japan on Kenvue policies and procedures.
This includes advising management on new policies or required changes to existing policies, creating appropriate training for management and employees on such policies and participating on disciplinary panels related to Kenvue policies and procedures
- Provide legal counsel and support on legal issues and risk management to enabling functions of Kenvue Japan including Human Resources, Operations, Quality, Government Affairs, Research & Development, Supply Chain, Sales, Marketing and Finance
- Proactively partner with and share knowledge and best practices with other Kenvue lawyers regionally and globally
- Law degree from a nationally or globally recognized university
- License to practice law either in Japan or another jurisdiction; Japan Bar is preferred
- At least 12 years of relevant legal experience since qualification, including a mix of law firm and in-house experience
- Experience working in multinational corporations is preferred
- Broad-based commercial and corporate experience, ideally having advised leaders of business units or functions
- Fluent in written and spoken English and Japanese
- A strong business partner, with a proven ability to proactively engage with the business to find practical and innovating solutions
