Victim Restitution Technician II - Probation Department

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Riverside County Probation Department seeks to fill Victim Restitution Technici an II v acancies for their Victim Restitution and Resources Unit in Riverside .

The Victim Restitution Technician II title is the working title for the Revenue and Recovery Technician II job classification.

The incumbent will interview and work with victims, defendants, and clients; provide resource information to the public, gather loss information from victims of crime and various entities such as law enforcement officers, court officials, attorneys, probation officers, etc., determine victim restitution amounts, and prepare court reports while utilizing facts of the case and relevant restitution laws; and manage a high-volume caseload.

Additional duties will include heavy data entry, mail handling, phone answering, and interaction with the public; and perform other related duties as required.

The most competitive candidates will possess experience in gathering loss information for restitution cases, determining victim restitution orders, working with and advocating for victims of crime, working with the court system, and managing a high-volume caseload.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will be detail orientated; work well under pressure; be able to meet deadlines on time-sensitive tasks; possess excellent customer service skills; strong writing and management skills; and intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Analyze crime reports for victim loss information, interpret court minutes and other legal resources; utilize various skip-tracing techniques and contact public and private agencies to verify further information regarding crime-related claims; communicate the rights and responsibilities of crime victims and offenders by letter, telephone contact, or personal interview.

• Explain regulations and legal obligations to offenders; make recommendations to the court regarding victim restitution.

• Gather and provide information to be used in obtaining legally valid court orders for restitution; electronically file court reports; provide information and documentation to be used in in dispute hearings; represent the department in collaborative criminal justice meetings; testify in court occasionally.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:Graduation from high school or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D.

test.
