Probation Assistant - Murrieta

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Riverside County Probation Department seeks to fill a Probation Assistant position to support the Probation Office in Murrieta.

However, the list may be used to fill future vacancies throughout Riverside County.

T he incumbent will be responsible to assist professional staff by performing a variety of routine, non-sworn support duties; and to perform other related duties as required.

C ompetitive candidates will possess clerical experience in a law enforcement or criminal justice agency.

Additionally, candidates with experience utilizing the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) are most competitive.

This journey level class reports to a Senior or Supervising Probation Officer and performs a variety of routine support duties for Deputy Probation Officers.

Incumbents typically assist professional staff by performing routine data inquiries, extractions and entries in local and state law enforcement computerized databases.

This class is characterized by the responsibility to assist Deputy Probation Officers (DPO) by monitoring and transporting clients and families, tracking case progress and advising of case status.

Incumbents create, gather and distribute documents, files and records and may also conduct interviews to collect standard information and/or to provide routine information and instructions to clients and families.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Receives client referrals on behalf of the DPO from law enforcement, collateral agencies or community members regarding clients and initiates reviews and comparison of a variety of records for accuracy and/or consistency.

• Enters, inquires and extracts data from law enforcement computer systems; advises DPO of client's progress, additional arrests, and/or adherence to program expectations and legal requirements while on probation.

• May assist in transporting in-custody minors; may monitor and transport clients and families in non-custodial programs.

• Provides verbal and written feedback and information to professional staff; provides standard administrative instructions and information to individuals; interviews detainees to gather basic information and data.

• Logs information such as contacts, services provided, and resources used; monitors and reports to professional staff regarding client's progress including but not limited to adherence to rules of established agreements.
