Senior Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Chemistry

ABOUT THE POSITION
Riverside University Health System is recruiting for a Sr.

Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) for the Chemistry division of the Medical Center Laboratory.

The Sr.

CLS (Chemistry Supervisor) is responsible for the more difficult and complex laboratory procedures within their assigned area of the laboratory, and performing other lab procedures and work as required.

The Chemistry Supervisor will have direct supervision over approximately 30 FTEs assigned to the division and will oversee chemistry procedures performed within the laboratory.

The incumbent must be able to troubleshoot large chemistry analyzers, adhere to all laboratory regulatory requirements, and train laboratory personnel on applicable procedures.

The incumbent must be enrolled in a CMS-approved proficiency testing program commensurate with the services offered.

This role has a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Plans, schedules, assigns, and reviews the work of Clinical Laboratory Scientists; regularly reviews existing laboratory procedures for possible improvements and when appropriate makes recommendations for changes to the supervisor.

• Advises subordinate personnel on techniques for improving procedures and methods.

• Personally performs the more difficult and demanding laboratory tests that require greater understanding of technical laboratory procedures.

• Trains new personnel in departmental and sectional procedures and policy; Prepares, maintains, and reviews laboratory records as required.

• Meets with vendors and laboratory representatives to review the need or necessity for new reagents, media, or equipment.

• Analyzes and makes recommendations on new supplies, equipment, and materials.

• Familiarity with State, JCAHO, and CLIA regulations such that procedures are in compliance with regulatory agencies.

• Chemistry, bacteriology, serology, hematology, and parasitology; Principles, techniques, equipment, and terminology used in the laboratory diagnosis of disease and abnormal conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of: Common causes of disease and the methods of transmission and control of communicable diseases; Proper safety precautions and procedures.

Ability to: Plan, schedule, assign, and review the work of others; Skillfully operate technical laboratory equipment; Perform specialized and difficult laboratory tests; analyze situations accurately and take effective action; Maintain records and make reports; Communicate effectively with co-workers, other employees, and patients.
