Infection Preventionist

The Infection Preventionist will participate in implementing the Infection Prevention and Control plan under the supervision of the IPC Manager.

The Infection Preventionist (IP) works to prevent, identify, monitor, and control the spread of infection.

The IP participates in surveillance, data collection and analysis, data presentations, improvement teams, policy reviews, and staff education throughout the hospital and as deemed necessary across the organization.

Provides oversight and consultative advice to leadership, physicians, and staff as an expert in infection prevention and control.

Establishes isolation processes/procedures/locations for the North campus.

Develops, reviews and revises policies and procedures using published recommendations and evidence-based best practices, in conjunction with the Infection Prevention and Control Committee.

Monitors infection prevention and control practices and compliance with policies and procedures.

Identifies non-compliance and develops action plans for compliance; seeks resolution using appropriate channels and chain of command as necessary; consults with subject matter experts in other areas such as quality, risk, patient safety, legal, nursing, and medical staff leaders to address systematic or individual performance issues of a substandard nature.

Maintains current knowledge of infection prevention and control standards and requirements for all relevant regulatory, licensure, and accrediting bodies; monitors practices and policies to ensure compliance with these standards; provides timely updates on changes to leadership and assists in planning for compliance.

Coaches and mentors staff and management on principles of infection prevention.

Develops and presents staff education programs as needed.

Monitors, analyzes, compiles, and interprets data from a variety of sources including microbiology reports, surveillance activities and patient records for inpatient and associated clinics, and acts on the information as appropriate to ensure that infections are detected and addressed.

Participates in hospital EOC rounding, and other safety and quality rounds as necessary.
Requirements:


* Bachelor's degree in nursing, microbiology, biological sciences, public health or a healthcare related field is required.


* Completion of a clinical training program i.e.

nursing, pharmacy, respiratory care, medical technology, or microbiology is required (can substitute with a master's degree in public health or epidemiology).


* Must be certified in infection control (CIC) within 3 years of hire.


* Minimum of six (6) months of public health or healthcare related experience is required.
