Operations and Maintenance Supervisor

ABOUT THE POSITION
The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County.

A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.

The Riverside County Department of Waste Resources has an opening for an Operations and Maintenance Supervisor assigned to oversee all units at the Badlands (Moreno Valley) landfill.

This includes Refuse Control/Traffic Direction, Recycling, and Engineering Operations units.

The selected candidate will serve as a front-line supervisor, scheduling daily assignments for staff crews, including Crew Lead Workers, Equipment Operators, and Maintenance and Construction Workers, etc.

The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating staff, equipment, and materials necessary for daily landfill activities; directing other field/equipment operation personnel in the performance of work; overseeing landfill operations to ensure compliance with policy and safety requirements; performance of general supervision of field staff, including but not limited to performance evaluations and discipline/pre-disciplinary documentation; and preparation and submittal of various daily, weekly, or monthly reports.

Additionally, the incumbent will ensure compliance with Department policy and safety considerations, assist in training staff, and operate heavy equipment such as dump trucks or loaders, etc.

* A valid Commercial California Class A or Class B Driver License is required at the time of application.

Competitive candidates will have strong prior supervisory experience, with at least one year in a lead role in a construction and/or landfill environment; be proficient in word and excel applications; customer service experience and working with the public.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Coordinate and assign the work of construction crews engaged in a variety of construction and maintenance operations, including clearing land, building and maintaining a variety of drainage protection and control facilities, building fences, weed abatement, litter control, and maintenance of structures involving semi-skilled trades work.

• Estimate equipment and material needs, in accordance with instructions and plans, and personally supervise lead workers, equipment operators, and other personnel; and direct field maintenance or arrange shop repair of equipment.
