Engineering Aide/ Technician I/ Technician II

The Riverside County Department of Waste Resources has multiple openings for Engineering Aide, Technician I, or Technician II at the Lambs Canyon and/or Badlands landfill sites.

The Engineering Aide or Technician will perform related field work at their assigned landfill and at closed landfills.

Typical duties include: inspecting closed landfills for compliance with applicable state and local regulations, construction inspection of public works contract projects for compliance with plans, specifications, County standards, and regulatory requirements; and assisting professional Engineering staff with preparing plans and cost estimates for public works construction projects, including performing calculations for soil volumes, available disposal capacity and expected site life using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) mapping software such as MicroStation, Inroads, AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software applications.

Other field work may also include performing sub-professional field survey and setting construction stakes using Trimble GPS equipment and preparing construction daily reports.

Office Duties may include utilizing CADD programs to draft maps and drawings with topography, geometric alignments and cross-sections.

Competitive candidates will have sub-professional engineering field experience working at a sanitary landfill or in a related public works setting, and drafting experience utilizing MicroStation/Inroads and/or AutoCAD/ Autodesk Civil 3D software applications.

The most competitive candidates will possess comparable Public Works inspection experience.

The level at which the position will be filled is at the Department's discretion and is based on candidate qualifications.

The selected candidate will perform office/field work at the Badlands Landfill, Moreno Valley Headquarters, Lambs Canyon landfill and will be required to drive to various locations throughout Riverside County including Beaumont and the Desert sites.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Engineering Aide:
• Act as rear chain or rod worker on a field survey crew, including using tapes and chains in make horizontal and vertical measurements, make simple survey notes, set monuments, clear brush, and stock trucks.

• Make traffic counts, census surveys and sign inspections, including collecting and recording data and making diagrams of intersections and accident scenes; collect materials samples, and make and keep notes and records of routine laboratory tests such as relative compaction, sand equivalent, specif...
