Board of Supervisors Legislative Intern (District 2)

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Board of Supervisors has a paid internship opportunity for a Legislative Intern to join their Second District.

The focus of the internship will be to provide office support and assist administratively with special projects led by senior staff.

The intern will gain a broad overview of how business is conducted in a local elected office.

They will learn about the county legislative process and will gain experience related to the Brown Act, public meetings, ordinance implementation, and interactions between local, state, and federal jurisdictions.

The in-person student internship position is based in Riverside County's Second District and offers a flexible work week consisting of approximately 20 hours per week, with flexibility granted around academic obligations.

The selected candidate can anticipate the internship to span up to one year in length.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Under supervision, assists and participates in the work performed by employees of a specific profession; through participation, receives supervised work experience in a specific professional vocation; and performs other related duties as required.

The legislative intern responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:


* Providing general office support


* Assisting administratively with special projects


* Producing letters of recognition and certificates/proclamations


* Answering office phones


* Interacting with constituents in a professional manner


* Representing the Supervisor at events and/or meetings

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average : 2.5 GPA required.

Proof of most current unofficial/official transcript with cumulative GPA must be provided at time of application .

Education: Applicants must be currently enrolled/attending school at an accredited college or university in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program or preparing to transfer to a Bachelor's program during the entire duration of the internship.

Areas of Study : Political Science, Public or Business Administration, Human Resources, Organizational Studies or similar; Psychology, Sociology or other Behavioral studies, Arts or Humanities, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or similar.

Minimum Qualifications:


* Basic knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite


* Ability to work in a confidential environment


* Strong written and verbal communication skills


* Valid driver's license and auto insurance


* Availability to work 20 hours per week

Desired Qualifications :


* Strong interest in local government


* Pursuing degree that aligns with a career in government or elected office


* Knowledge of Canva, Hootsuite, or similar programs


* Professional demeanor


* Preference will be given to candidates who reside or go to school in the Second District
