Ecologist

The position primarily involves performing ecological evaluations in the field; assisting in preparing reports; and assisting in federal, state, and local environmental permitting efforts.

The ideal candidate will be able to identify, state, and analyze well-defined problems; be responsible for making decisions and designing or developing solutions to problems by applying accepted procedures and methodologies; and identify risks and apply risk management techniques.

Essential Tasks


* Perform ecological field investigations for wetlands and protected wildlife that involve gathering, analyzing, and interpreting scientific data.


* Assist in preparing reports in support of projects, including protected species, natural habitat, environmental impacts, biological evaluations, and related regulatory requirements and compliance guidelines.


* Perform routine and sometimes complex tasks related to field data collection, including preparing and transcribing field notes.


* Perform wetland inventories and Environmental Assessments, including protected species

Preferred Qualifications


* Bachelor’s degree in physical or natural sciences or related field


* Up to three years of prior practical experience


* Familiarity or established relationships with FDOT, regulatory agencies, and other municipal clients


* Knowledge of FDOT and regulatory agency criteria, standards, and plan preparation requirements is a plus


* Experience with GIS/GPS both in the office and field data collection is a plus


* Ability to successfully communicate technical information verbally and in reports and other written documents


* Possess attention to detail, organizational skills, ability to work in sometimes difficult field conditions, and a positive attitude
