Steamfitter (department Of Facilities Management) Coupe Pipe 597

Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Steamfitter Foreman, lays out; fabricates; assembles; installs and maintains piping systems; fixtures and equipment for steam; hot water; heating; ventilating; air conditioning; hydraulic and steam pipeline systems.

Maintains steam heating plants, steam power lines, pumps and oil lines.

Inspects work sites to determine presence of obstructions and structural weakness.

Plans sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


* Successful completion of an approved and recognized Steamfitter Journeyman Apprenticeship Program OR, Five (5) years' full-time work experience as a Steamfitter is required.


* Valid certification in Pipe Welding as recognized by the American Welding Society is required.


* Valid Driver's license and proof of automobile insurance is required.

This position is considered a safety-sensitive position.

Candidates who are selected to fill safety-sensitive positions must pass a required drug test as part of the pre-employment background check process.

*Degrees awarded outside of the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States territories and Canada, must be credentialed by the World Education Services (WES), Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) or a National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES) member organization.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of the steamfitter trade, including the use of tools and the installation, repair, alteration, fabrication, etc.

Ability to read and accurately follow construction blueprints pertaining to area of expertise.
Skill in welding techniques.
Working knowledge of shop mathematics.
Ability to use hand, power cutting, threading and pipe bending equipment.
Knowledge of techniques used in obtaining air and water tight connections such as caulking, packing and use of gaskets.
Knowledge of piping and connections used in power, heating, ventilating and air conditioning, and chlorinating systems.
Knowledge of the working properties of wrought iron; cast iron; steel; copper; brass; bronze; lead lined and rubber lined pipes.
This position requires moderate to extensive travel to work assignments throughout Cook County, for which the employee must provide his or her own adequate means of transportation.
