The Hospital School Teacher plays a crucial role in supporting the educational needs of hospitalized children.

They adapt and develop educational material to meet the unique requirements of students who may be admitted for various medical conditions, including chronic or acute illnesses, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, brain and spinal tumors, and organ transplants.

The Hospital School Teacher collaborates with patients' enrolled schools to work with existing educational material.

When available, they follow Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to assist students in achieving their full learning potential.

Additionally, they must address diverse grade levels and tailor instruction accordingly.

Responsibilities:


* Plan, Implement, and Document: Develop and execute education plans for hospitalized children, ensuring continuity of learning during their stay.


* Adapt Teaching Methods: Assess how each student learns best and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.


* Creative Teaching Activities: Design and plan engaging educational activities to enhance learning experiences.


* Diagnostic Testing: Administer and interpret diagnostic educational and cognitive aptitude tests as needed.


* Evaluate Outcomes: Summarize the effectiveness of school-based teaching methods.


* Post-Discharge Planning: Work closely with hospital staff, parents, and school professionals to plan educational services for students after discharge.

Consult with general education teachers as necessary.


* IEP Development: Participate in the planning and development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) when applicable.


* Documentation: Maintain accurate records of services provided to patients in their medical records.


* Internship Program Oversight: Oversee the PedsAcademy Internship Program in collaboration with UCF faculty/representatives.


* Continuing Education: Complete annual continuing education requirements for relevant certifications.


* Patient Experience Improvement: Develop and implement initiatives aimed at enhancing the educational experience for patients receiving care at Nemours.
