Job Title: Autistic Support Teacher

Position Summary: 

 

Responsible for the planning and implementation of program instructional services provided to students in public schools and or special education center based programs.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:       

 
1.

Valid PA certification in Special Education required.
2.

Ability to effectively present information and articulately respond to questions from administrators, staff, parents, students, business and educational partners, and the general public.

3.     Trained in TEACH techniques.

4.     Knowledge and understanding of Autism with relation to communication and social barriers.

5.     Ability to recognize distress/need in a student who is non-verbal. 

6.     Ability to modify curriculum materials including core curriculum and prevocational curriculum.

7.     Strong working knowledge of behavior management principles.

8.     Ability to use de-escalation techniques to control aggressive situations and achieve a positive outcome.
9.

Ability to interpret a Functional Behavior Assessment and develop a Positive Behavior Intervention Plan.                                                              
10.

Ability to use data collection strategies and data analysis and interpretation to monitor BIP.

11.  Ability to create an educational environment within the room that is reflective of the educational process Excellent organizational skills, initiative, and an ability to work with limited supervision.

12.  Excellent written and oral communication skills.

13.  Self-motivator, independent, cooperative, flexible, creative, and responsible.

14.  Ability and experience in working as a member of a team.

15.  Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel and Outlook, and willingness to experiment and work with new technologies.

Additional Requirements:   

1.      Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR Clearances required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of hire date).

2.      School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.
