Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Chemical Operator to join our Personal Care business at our Menomonee Falls, WI location.

This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the manufacturing function.

This position will report to Production Manager.

 

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

 


* Ensures timely and accurate completion of all production operations during the assigned shift by his/her Lead Operator at the request of the Production Supervisor and the demands of the business.

Ensures accurate information exchange prior to shift change to their Lead Operator.

Calls to the attention of the Lead Operator any perceived change in the process status, problems or potential problems as they arise.


* Performs all routine production operations such as media preparation, fermentor batching, sterilization, inoculation, fermentation and product recovery (centrifugation, filtration, solvent extraction, and solvent recovery and batch distillations).

Tracks product kgs from the start of broth recovery to finished goods for expected recovery/yield/quantify per processing step and promptly notifies the Lead Operator and/or the Development Group when encountering less than satisfactory results.

This consumes approximately 75% of the Operators time.


* Performs, records and understands results of analytical testing of in process and finished product samples using instruments such as GC/HPLC and associated HP ChemStation software, Karl-Fischer, optical density, pH and microscope for counts/possible contamination.

Must be able to make decisions with this data to keep fermentation and recovery processes within control parameters.

Represents approximately 25% of the Operators time.


* Operates the CIP system for cleaning lines and processes equipment.

Must comply with AIB/GMP guidelines.


* Ensures complete production and analytical records as well as maintaining an accurate plant inventory.


* Ensures all processing areas/equipment are in a clean, sanitary, safe and presentable state.

Properly starts up and shuts down all equipment and ensures building security at all times.


* Follows the appropriate Standard Operating Procedures for every process and piece of equipment.

Critically reviews the Standard Operating Procedures and recommends changes when needed.
