Environmental Engineer

We are looking for an Environmental Engineer to provide expert technical skills and strong leadership with environmental compliance activities at its North Salt Lake Refinery.

Position Summary

As a Waste Management Subject Matter Expert, you will lead the refinery in finding ways to limit environmental impacts associated with recycling, efficient methods for waste disposal, addressing issues related to pollution, and contamination.  You will lead processes and procedures for the safe disposal of toxic hazardous materials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


* Support the development and implementation of plans to achieve and maintain compliance with all State and Federal environmental laws and regulations applicable to Refinery operations.


* Maintain environmental records required to demonstrate compliance.

Develop and submit all required reports to government agencies.


* Interact with environmental regulators and inspectors in a courteous and professional manner.


* Environmental regulations pertaining to this position include solid waste, hazardous waste, pollution prevention plans, material releases, storm water, wastewater, community right-to-know, any site-specific regulations from local ordinances, etc.


* Direct compliance with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations pertaining to Large Quantity Generators (LQGs).

Prepare and submit the Biennial Hazardous Waste Report.


* Maintain and train site personnel on the facility’s Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan and Quick Response Guide.


* Develop policies and procedures to meet all RCRA regulations pertaining to the Petroleum Refinery.


* Assist with waste determinations, sampling, and inspections.

Profile and coordinate shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.


* Facilitate the Remediation program.

Drive closure of Solid Waste Management Units subject to the RCRA Facility Investigation.


* Maintain the Spill Prevention, Controls, and Countermeasures Plan (SPCC) and coordinate inspections.


* Align internal response protocols with the Facility Response Plan (FRP).

Train internal resources in proper response techniques.


* Lead efforts to ensure cleanup activities are documented, and applicable agencies are notified.


* Maintain the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and coordinate associated inspections.


* Work with operations to maintain compliance with wastewater discharges.


* Support the environmental team with EPCRA reporting requirements for Tier II, and Toxic Release Inventory Reports.


* Able to work cross-functionally with unit supervisors, operators, engineers, and maintenance personnel to address and resolve issues affecting environmental compliance.


* Good interpersonal skills.

Able to work cooperatively and productively within the Environmental Team.
