Engineering Technician Level I

ABOUT THE POSITION
The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County.

A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.

The Riverside County Flood Control and Water Conservation District is seeking an Engineering Technician - Level I, to join the Construction Management Team a part of the Design and Construction Division.

The Engineering Technician - Level I will perform both continuous and/or periodic on-site technical and quality control inspections of materials used in Flood Control and Water Conservation District's public works and developer-funded drainage projects during construction.

Flood Control and Water Conservation District projects are focused on construction of storm drain facilities, such as underground pipes and box storm drains, open channels, levees and basins.

These projects most commonly involve reinforced concrete construction, trenching, shoring and installation of underground precast concrete pipe and box pipes, sewer and waterline pipeline relocation and repair, backfilling and compacting soil, traffic control, trench safety, air and water quality protective measures.

The incumbent will assist senior personnel to prepare and maintain job records, including quantities records and daily logs.

And, will be expected to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with contractors, vendors and other key personnel.

Competitive candidates will have e xperience in inspecting public works construction projects involving reinforced concrete structures, such as but not limited to channels, storm drain pipes, roads, walls, or bridges; experience in soils and construction material testing; experience using Bluebeam Software and/or experience with a nuclear testing gauge and will have obtained American Concrete Institute [ACI] program certifications in Testing, Inspection and/or Construction/Specialist.

The Engineering Technician - Level I is a natural progression underfill for the Engineering Technician - Level II.

Incumbents are eligible to promote to Engineering Technician - Level II upon successful completion of their probationary period, which would include a satisfactory performance evaluation and any additional qualification requirements.

* Observe work in progress to ensure construction procedures are followed and that material used conforms to specifications.


* Collect and prepare aggregates, concrete mixes and soil samples in the field for subsequent laboratory testing and characterization (e.g.

moisture content, density, sieve analysis etc.).
