Manufacturing Engineering Intern

Our plant manufactures north of 500,000 joints of pipe a year and each joint needs to have ends cut for squareness (approx.

1 million cuts).

The main project for this intern will be focused on improving tool life at the cutoff line.

Tool life has decreased by about 60% from peak values in 2020.

Currently we get less than 15 cuts per tool at $17/tool and well over half a million in losses. 

PROJECTS:


* Validating and monitoring KPIs


* Benchmarking between operators


* Identifying sources of variation


* Eliminating sources of variation


* Designing experiments to compare different vendors tools.


* Work directly with vendor on addressing tool defects.


* Providing recommendation for primary supplier based on summer results.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:


* Focus on Mechanical, Industrial or equivalent engineering degree.


* Proficient in Excel.


* Experience with other statistical software such as Minitab is a plus.
