Data Architect I

Job Purpose

The Data Architect I, as part of the Baseball Information Systems team, is responsible for the development and maintenance of baseball-related databases and data architecture.

The Data Architect I will work with the team to evaluate and improve our data systems, ETL processes, and integrations with internal and external data sources.

The successful candidate will also help identify changing data needs and develop related solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities:


* Assist in designing and evolving data architecture across databases, data warehouses, data lakes/lakehouses, and related data systems


* Design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT processes that integrate data from internal systems and external vendors


* Research and evaluate emerging data technologies and platforms, including cloud data platforms and technologies such as Databricks, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, and assist in determining where they may provide value


* Work with baseball-related departments to understand data needs and develop solutions that support scouting, player development, baseball administration, and research


* Evaluate existing databases, data processes, and vendor integrations to identify opportunities for improvement, modernization, and automation


* Import and integrate data from disparate external sources and automate processes for repeatability and reliability


* Optimize centralized MS SQL databases and data processes for efficient retrieval and processing of large datasets


* Monitor databases and data processes and help identify and resolve issues affecting data quality, reliability, or performance


* Follow data security, development, and architectural standards


* Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications


* Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent field


* Knowledge and interest in the latest technologies with the ability to learn new technologies quickly


* Good communication skills – both written and verbal


* Ability to work independently or collaboratively and multi-task efficiently


* Strong SQL and database programming skills


* Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server RDBMS


* Experience with ETL processes, data integration, or cloud data platforms preferred


* Experience with Python or another programming language preferred


* Baseball knowledge and experience is preferred
